It's stable in the air. Decomposition at temperatures above the melting point loses ammonia and water, forming ammonium metaphosphate and phosphoric acid and mixtures. There is small decomposition at 100ºC.
Ammonium phosphate is the best fertilizer to be applied during crop growth. Ammonium phosphate is acidic in soil and may have adverse effects if it is too close to seeds. It is better than calcium and ammonium sulfate in acidic soil and superior to other fertilizers in alkaline soil. Do not mix with alkaline fertilizer to avoid reducing fertilizer efficiency.
